Quality Control ( QC ) Chemist

Nationally recognized Food manufacturer in Los Angeles County is looking to identify and hire a Quality Control ( QC ) Chemist to perform quality line checks, test raw material & finished goods, monitor label information, blend batches and samples, and ensure that all raw materials and finished products meet company quality standards.

 

The QC Chemist will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Performing analysis of finished products, in-process, and raw materials against testing specifications to assure quality prior to shipment.
  • Operating QC instrumentation (e.g. HPLC, GC) in a safe and professional manner.
  • Notifying the QC Manager of unusual product observations or analytical results during analysis or sample handling.
  • Maintaining a traceable system of quality documentation and related items such as inventory samples.
  • Complying with GMP, HACCP, FDA, and OSHA procedures.
  • Making suggestions for product processes that will result in improved product quality.
  • Conducting failure analysis of defective products.
  • Performing weight checks of the product.
  • Performing filler nozzles check.
  • Checking daily production documentation.
  • Checking labels and packaging materials.
  • Inspecting production lines during change over.
  • Checking re-works.
  • Placing the product on hold and completing hold documentation.
  • Controlling CCP and CP on the lines.
  • Controlling GMP and Food Safety in the production area.
  • Performing Pre- ops.
  • Performing ATP swab tests on food contact surfaces.
  • Performs air tests for yeast and mold.
  • Checking pre-flights on the lines.
  • Inspecting shipments of finished goods.
  • Inspecting receiving packaging and raw materials.
  • Performing tests for sanitization.
  • Performing wood and glass inspections.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements for the QC Chemist:

  • Bachelor of Science (Organic Chemistry preferred).
  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to generate reports, spreadsheets, and charts.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and procedures.
  • At least one year of product lab testing experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Wet chemistry lab experience in titration, HPLC, GC, and spectrophotometry.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal skills, including the ability to present detailed analyses.
